Computer Programming
In any modern computer-oriented business there are requirements for bespoke software applications. These can take almost any form from scheduled file system tidying programs to statistical analysis tools for feedback from your website - processes often carried out manually because no-one has realised that an automatic solution is possible.
It is surprising how much company time is spent on tasks that would be better done by computer, but often this just isn't considered. By providing a tailored software solution to these problems, employees' time can be spent more profitably elsewhere.
We can help identify redundancy in company processes where a computerised solution would remove employees from mundane and often unnecessary tasks. Tedious routines are often cited in staff assessments as a major contributary factor to workplace dissatisfaction.
Once a requirement has been identified it is possible to design, code, test and implement an intelligent solution to run locally on PC workstations under the Micrsoft Windows operating system. Command line DOS or UNIX applications can also be provided for use in batch file situations.
The programming language for the solution often depends on the nature of the problem, but we have experience in C/C++, Visual C++, Delphi, Visual Basic, Perl, PHP, Javascript and would choose the language appropriately.
Recent Projects
Some recent projects include the development of a custom solution for placing large spreadsheets into web pages, a set of customised building industry calculators and a brickfinder application for a leading UK builders merchant group, and a projects library SQL databased application for a leading roofing products manafacturer.
Display large format Excel spreadsheet on a webpage, with split frames and scrolling.
Generally this is difficult to achieve successfully because the column titles, at the top of the spreadsheet and the row identifiers on the left, scroll out of view. Our solution provides split freeze frame and scroll facilities for column title and row identifiers - similar in operation to the facility to be found in leading spreadsheet software. A custom back end management panel provides for uploading files in .xls format, together with tools to individually adjust the output layouts for columns, rows, type styles and sizes, highlighting rows and cells, etc.
Program a set of building industry specific calculators for Buildbase Ltd, UK.
Specially programmed calculators can be a valuable time saving tool where repetitive multiple calculations are required. The suite of calculators programmed for the Buildbase Group provide a good example. An unusual feature of these calculators is the ability to input and output data in imperial measures as well as in metric. Another project for this client was a Brick Finder and Comparison Tool for their website.
